Fast, damn fast!

New GIANT Trinity TT rocket.

So Nadelle and I have had out new Giant TT bikes for about 6 weeks now. Long enough to get a little review out there.

Both Nadelle and I are on the small, but with the large amount of adjustability in both the front end and seat clamp it is quite an easy job to get both of us into our preferred time trial positions. Although the front end of the bike is highly integrated it comes with a choice of 3 stems - flat, raised 3cm or dropped 3cm. There is also plenty of forward and aft movement in the aero bars and more than enough width to play with for the majority of athletes.  The flat stem is by far the coolest looking set up, however I found even with the full 40mm of spacers the tt bars where still just a tad low for me to comfortably compete in an Ironman. I therefore went with the riser stem and 30mm of spacers. This put me into the most comfortable position I have ever had on a TT bike. It was so good that on only my 4th ride on the bike I pb’d on the Strongman race course. This is a 155km bike course on a small Japanese island, somewhere near Taiwan. While I needed the higher stem for a long course race I think the lower stem and hight would be perfect for a short race. Which brings me to how the bike handles. Just looking at the new Trinity, it looks fast. However you could think that it looks like it might go fast in a straight line but not through turns. This would be wrong, it actually corners very fast. It is incredibly stable through any turn and so stiff that every ounce of power that you put into the peddles go directly into propelling you forward.

One thing to think about is sizing. It is quite a bit different to the old Trinity, so you may want to size down from where you might think. I originally ordered a medium, because of the low front end, but after consultation with Craig at Bicycles Inc settled on the small. It was a good choice in the end and with the considerable hight adjustments available it was a issue I never needed to be worried about. So if you are thinking about one of the new Trinity’s I would so go for it and have a good talk to Craig at Bicycles Inc to make sure you lock in the correct size.

This is definitely the fastest time trial bike I have ever ridden and I cant wait to get it into a few more races. So much so that I will have to get a road racing licence so I can do a few Time Trial event over winter.

Happy training, Patrick.
